Drs. Igor Khripunov and Dmitriy Nikonov publish on Russia's closed nuclear cities

“The rebirthrebirth of Russia’s closed cities” by CITS Senior Research Associate Dmitriy Nikonov and CITS Associate Director Igor Khripunov appears in the October 2008 issue of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. The article focuses on the retooling of the bureaucracies controlling Russia’s closed cities and the efforts to support civilian nuclear and high-tech industries within them. The article discusses the opening up of these cities to economic growth and provides recommendations on their gradual deregulation depending on the role of nuclear weapons in the new Russia’s national defense strategy. more →
